The reality today is that people show up in jeans, short pants and flip flops. There is seldom any fixed dress code these days. Witnesses tend to have nice suits etc so they are covered but non witnesses seem to dress in a way that comes across very disrespectful.

Funeral Fashion
by ThinkerBelle ini have a funeral to attend for a non jw family member and the jdub family member reminded me that i should not wear black.
for the life of me, i can't recall where this belief came from in jw teachings and i'm born in.
is there something in print or is that just a personal opinion belief?

I wonder if they'll sell off kingdom halls making older witnesses drive in the rain 30 minutes to get to meetings? and other properties to come up with more money? Wait, they've already done that. lol Jerks.

Remains to be seen. If the Republican base has no problem with him being in bed with the mob, announcing he's a sexual predator, inviting Russian oligarchs into the white house to brag he fired the head of the FBI to stop the investigation allowing only Russian media to cover the event, they won't mind anything else I think.

Is New Zealand right to ban military style guns?
by ThomasCovenant inin response to the recent terrorist attack in new zealand their government is proposing to ban semi automatic and military style weaponry.. do you agree with this idea?.
would they be better off allowing more of these weapons instead?.
would it be better to perhaps allow more of the muslim community for example, to be armed with semi automatic guns to protect themselves at their places of worship?.

It's not my country so I have no say. Its small enough they may get it done. Its the immigrants from the US that might be armed they may have to beware of. lol

You know what they say about German laxatives, They bring out the wurst in you
My wife has this weird OCD where she arranges the dinner plates by the year they were bought. It’s an extremely rare dish order.
Went to the park yesterday to play Frisbee with my dog. Think I'm gonna need a flatter dog.

by Room 215 inhttps://www.worldreligionnews.com/religion-news/russia-confiscates-30-4-million-property-jehovahs-witnesses.

Considering how the WT obtains money by pressure and sales, its hardly religious in nature. Its poetic justice in my opinion, though technically uncool.

When you were an active JW, did you ever have dealings with a pyramid scheme?
by Tameria2001 ini'm not sure why this memory popped up, and i was wondering if any others, when they were still active jw had dealings with a pyramid scheme involving other witnesses in the organization?
at the time it was 1993, and my husband and i were still newlyweds.
once in a while, we would attend a neighboring congregation because that was where he grew up, and some of his family was still attending there at the time.

I traveled back to DC on a trip in the late 80's and visited a congregation to take in a meeting. I knew no one there, I was being an uber dub and just had to take in a meeting. First thing when I walked in the Hall an older guy who looked extremely prim and a bit fay introduced himself and started a sales pitch for some cosmetic line. What a turd. I excused myself and sat down. Those fake business schemes were everywhere. Often they were health product related gems.

“Millions now living will never die”
by HappyBlessedFree inso i’m just reading the part in ray franz book “crisis of conscience” about the 1925 prediction of “millions now living will never die”.. ofcourse all witnesses are very familiar with this campaign.
yet none of us ever had an issue with it, including myself.
since the booklet was published in 1920, we are one year away from 100 years from that time.

A new version with the title "Millions now dying will never live" is due. The millions of JW's are giving up real life for a pathetic fantasy and are dying.

Giving fake address to elder
by Addison0998 inso i got married a few weeks ago, living a great life now with my husband, he was definitely the perfect guy for me :) but anyways, we are going to work on slowly fading, going to meetings once a week or every two weeks, and then in a few months move to a hall where nobody knows our families and the elders hardly know each other, and fade out a lot more.
but an elder asked for our address, which we didn’t feel comfortable giving him, because we don’t want any unexpected visits to “shepard” us, when we miss a few meetings, because they already text us when we miss 2 meetings in a row, which we had just gotten back from our honeymoon 🙄 so we “accidentally” gave him the wrong apartment number.
so if they ever come pokin around they will be lost, and if they call or text us we will just have an excuse for not replying.

Try something different, tell the truth. You gave the wrong number because you don't want any visits, scheduled or otherwise, right now. (apologize if you feel it necessary). You've moved to start anew in a different congregation, since your marriage, in order to have new memories starting from that point. You will cherish all the old memories but this is your decision. Tell them, we'll call you. Done.
